Hello and welcome to Fwigf, my little overgrown corner.
Who am I? I am Mia. I'm the proud (if occasionally clueless) owner of a community garden plot that I have named Fwigf. I am also broke. My brand shiny new husband and I are living on minimum wage in the state of New York. Living in New York is expensive. So we started gardening to try to cut our food bill, eat healthier, and give me something to keep occupied with. Gardening led to researching food preservation methods since it's pointless to grow anything if you can't either A. eat it all fresh or B. preserve it. It's only the two of us, so eating everything fresh is Right Out. Even one cucumber or tomato plant gives us more than we can eat fresh, so I started making pickles and learning how to can sauce. Deciding I didn't want to have to re-learn everything next year led to the creation of this blog. Since I can catalog what works, what doesn't, and what tips I find from the internet and books, without losing everything or having a mile long favorite's list. And maybe it'll help someone else in my position.
When I'm not in the garden (or at my night job) I play with string. I spin, knit, crochet, weave, sew, naalbind, basically if you can imagine doing it with string I've probably tried it. I also cook, tell stories, do decent performances of spoken word poetry, and dance.
I live in an older house in the suburbs. The 1920's middle class dream home. It's since fallen into disrepair, but I still love it, and all it's...quirks. With me are my long suffering and patient husband (referred to here by the oh-so-creative name of Husband), two hedgehogs, two corn snakes, two ball pythons, two very young dogs, and one opinionated cat.
